Melbourne Metro Tunnel Project

2020 – 2021

The Metro Tunnel will create a new end-to-end rail line from Sunbury in the west to Cranbourne/Pakenham in Melbourne’s south-east, with high capacity trains and five new underground stations. The Metro Tunnel will create increased capacity on the network to enable more than a half a million additional passengers per week to use the rail system during the peak periods.

Omada Rail Systems are providing signalling design support as a part of the delivery team for this project. On track for completion in 2025, this is a very exciting project to be involved in, and provides Omada’s engineers with the opportunity to showcase their skills in delivering quality design packages.

The project scope includes:

  • Twin nine-kilometre rail tunnels from the west of the city to the south-east as part of a new Sunbury to Cranbourne/Pakenham line.
  • Five new underground stations
  • High Capacity Signalling to maximise the efficiency of the new fleet of High Capacity Metro Trains.
